During
the 2000-01 school year,
All of the high school students attend a countywide
career fair in February. One of
the courses offered to 9-12 students is Service Learning. They organize the recycling program in
Freshmen
participate in the Be Real Game. The students begin to learn how courses
and extracurricular activities directly relate to future life and work
roles, and how furthering knowledge and skills opens doors to new
opportunities. The simulated society created throughout the program
challenges students' life/work roles with a variety of contemporary job
change factors.
Sophomores
enrich the transition by writing resumes and doing further investigation
into possible career choices.
The
Get Real Game for the juniors focuses on the transition from
grades 11 and 12 to post-secondary life. Using highly interactive
activities, students strategize ways of acquiring necessary skills, training,
education, and work experience to achieve their future goals. They participate
in a job shadow day where they go to Wichita and follow around a person
in their career choice to observe a typical day. They
also visit with the admission counselor that comes to
The Senior year
allows more opportunity for students to start making choices. Students participate in the job shadowing day,
